2017 MMRG Project to Improve Resource Base and Exposure

Feb 18, 2017

The Medical Mile Resource Group started the new year with a renewed focus on the group’s mission to develop deeper community relationships and improve the resources available within the group. January’s members only meeting included introductions, success stories and testimonies of the benefits of group involvement and community engagement, and discussion of the group’s projects and goals for 2017.

Group member Eric Uitvlugt of Exxel Engineering shared about his experience representing MMRG on the steering committee of the Michigan Street Corridor Project. The presentation illustrated both professional and personal benefits from his involvement on the committee. In addition, Greenridge Realty relocation specialist, Mary Smith-Uitvlugt, related how connections she’d made with different MMRG meeting speakers had helped her meet the unique needs of recent clients relocating to this area.

Recognizing that business growth on the Medical Mile would stimulate the economy of the Greater Grand Rapids area as well as the medical sector, Paul Spoelstra formed the Medical Mile Resource Group in 2008. The group’s purpose was to develop a strong network of local professionals and businesses that would positively impact the Medical Mile and the broader West Michigan growth by providing excellent business resources and serving the community.

Nine years later, the group remains focused on its original mission, with a few tweaks. If anything, members are more committed than ever because they’ve witnessed the economic growth both on the Medical Mile and in their respective businesses.

MMRG members are requested and encouraged to bring guests who might be interested in joining the group to the February meeting. Some occupations and industries currently missing from the MMRG membership include Home Inspector and Residential Mortgage Lender, along with professionals from the Marketing, Advertising, and Health Insurance industries. Please note that this is not a comprehensive list by any means. Rather, it is intended to give members ideas of who they should invite to check out an MMRG meeting.

Members and guests will tour the Lemmen-Holton Cancer Center, 145 Michigan St. NE in Grand Rapids at 8:00 am on Friday, February 24th. Paid parking is available in ramp 5 at the Lemmon-Holton building, and the group will meet on the first floor in the main lobby. Following the tour, there will be a time for Q&A about the facility and the Medical Mile Resource Group February meeting. You may register for the tour and meeting on the MMRG website, http://medicalmileresourcegroup.org/events.
