The Steering Committee is going through an extensive planning and review process in order to make recommendations that will positively impact the future growth along Michigan Street.

The two-year-old Grand Rapids-based drug discovery firm, which is developing treatments for depression and Alzheimer’s disease, operates with virtually no overhead. It conducts research at low-cost wet lab spaces in the Grand Rapids SmartZone and the Southwest Michigan Innovation Center in Kalamazoo. Tetra’s president, Dr. Mark Gurney, works directly with the Grand Valley State University cell and molecular biology lab for his discovery process, and then tests the drugs at the Western Michigan University animal research labs. GRAND RAPIDS – Veteran journalist Rod Kackley has published a new book that examines Grand Rapids’ Medical Mile and asks the question whether health care will help reinvent the American economy or will it take a return to manufacturing.

VAI Expands Biorepository for Saint Mary’s, Mercy Health Patients

Partnership Provides Enhanced Opportunity for MSU Medical School

GRAND RAPIDS — The Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and Grand Valley State University have agreed to establish a cooperative program of premedical and medical education by which Grand Rapids Community College students who transfer as undergraduate premedical students to GVSU will have the opportunity to be granted an early assurance of admission to MSU’s med school.

The McDonald’s restaurant at 417 Michigan St. NE west of College Avenue has city approval to add a second drive-through lane that the company said should reduce vehicle backups and help process food orders more quickly.

GRAND RAPIDS – Thanks to $1 billion worth of “Medical Mile” investments, Michigan Street NE is becoming a busy thoroughfare.
To make sure it doesn’t become too busy and drive away future investors, residents and visitors, city commissioners on Tuesday on a $400,000 “corridor plan” aimed at blending the busy street’s various uses. Read more.
