Our speaker Michael La Vean is the founder of Conceivex, Inc. He is an experienced inventor and business man in the field of reproductive health care. Mr. La Vean has already founded and piloted VEOS PLC, through to a successful IPO on the London Stock Exchange in 1999. Mr. La Vean is also experienced in regulation, having successfully taken products through both the FDA and an EC Notified Body (GMED). The Oves Cervical Cap was named Gynecologic Innovation of the Year in 1999 in France and Italy. Mr. La Vean left VEOS in June of 2001.

Our fourth  event will feature another look into what one pioneering group, the Medical Mile Resource Group, is doing to position themselves as the “go-to” business resource for established, evolving,  or emerging organizations. Join us to turn a mile of inspiration into miles of opportunities for businesses like yours!

Making a Living in the Life Sciences  (Part  III in The Medical Mile Resource Group Lecture Series)

The MMRG Events Committee is pleased to announce the third of four events in the 2010 Making a Living in the Life Sciences Series.  This event will consist of a panel of a local leaders who will discuss solutions to breaking down the barriers of economic development.

Panelists Include:

Economic Development: Rick Chapla, Vice President, Urban Redevelopment, The Right Place Program

Our panelists will be providing insight from their respective backgrounds and questions will be taken from the audience during the discussion.

The event will be hosted at Loosemore Auditorium on GVSU’s Pew Campus and is on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

ECONOMICS OF LIFE SCIENCES IN MICHIGAN Our speaker is Caroline Sallee of the Anderson Economic Group of Chicago. She will share an overview of the types of businesses defined as part of the “life sciences industry” in Michigan, the employment and wages of this industry, and the change in employment and wages between 1999 and 2007. Ms. Sallee will also be sharing some of the findings of her research done for the University Research Corridor (Michigan State, Wayne State, and University of Michigan). Caroline tells us that life sciences research at the URC has generated many new technologies and led to the development of new products and companies. She will provide a few examples of new life sciences businesses that have developed in Michigan.
