Join us Friday, April 28 as we hear our own Rachel Bartels from Hello West Michigan. She will be covering the organization’s successes and impact of Hello West Michigan on the West Michigan economy over the last 10 years. Hello West Michigan is a critical piece to the success of West Michigan and The Right Place. Rachel’s involvement in our group provides a needed resource.
Hello West Michigan is a talent attraction and retention initiative promoting West Michigan as a great place to live and work. The organization, which helps member companies increase their rate of success in recruiting top talent, is the only organization of its kind in the country.
As the Program Manager for Hello West Michigan, Rachel handles all marketing, event planning, and member communication for the organization. She helps educate employers and prospective candidates about the region.
Rachel previously handled the marketing for Aquinas College Career and Counseling Services and worked at Celebration! Cinema as a marketing intern. She is currently one of the founding co-chairs of AQ Women’s Connection, a women’s focused networking group for alumnae and friends of her alma mater, Aquinas College.
Her work in the community also includes service on the Perugia Committee for Grand Rapids Sister Cities International, Aquinas College Alumni Advisory Council, Grand Rapids Young Professionals Advisory Council, and Associate of Corporate Growth ACG Cup Competition planning committee. Rachel was named one of Corp! Magazine’s Most Valuable Millennials in 2015.

Join us for our May Medical Mile Resource Group meeting as we welcome Terra Tarango, Director of the Van Andel Education Institute as she gives us a hands-on, interactive tour of the Van Andel Education Institute.
Director, Van Andel Education Institute
Terra Tarango is an accomplished executive in the education industry with more than 15 years of experience in educational publishing and services. Prior to joining VAI, Tarango served as President of SDE, one of the largest providers of professional development for pre-K through 12th-grade educators in the U.S. Before that, she developed award-winning print and digital curriculum with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, the largest educational publisher in the nation. She is an expert in instructional climate and culture and has devoted her career to increasing curiosity, creativity and critical thinking in the classroom.
As Van Andel Education Institute Director and Education Officer, Tarango oversees VAEI and its efforts to improve science and inquiry-based instruction in K12 education. She and her team provide innovative science programs for students and world-class professional development for educators. She also heads up the global expansion of NexGen Inquiry®—VAEI’s web-based, interactive teaching and learning platform designed to support professional development and engage students in self-directed, hands-on science investigations.
